The Rundown: Steve Rogers and David Colton find themselves teamed up for a mission in Latveria.

David Colton is proud of the work that he has done in Afghanistan and becomes disillusioned after following his local translator and participating in a rescue that makes him question not only his mission but his purpose. Thoughts that continue to eat at him as he, Steve Rogers and the rest of the Howling Commandos find themselves dropped into Latveria to rescue American hostages of Doom.
After a tense standoff with rebel forces that want to use the two super soldiers to finally bring down Doom once and for all, Steve volunteers to go on the mission to confront the dictator. After breaking into Doom’s castle, Steve and his partner are attacked and fall into the trap Doom laid for them, but his reaction to seeing Steve Rogers is unexpected.
The Story: I was admittedly very hesitant about this storyline and what it could mean for Steve Rogers as a character, but Zdarsky has crafted an issue with great parallel moments between these characters as Steve continues to find his place in the world and the mantle of Captain America while David deals with being the symbol in the modern era and seeing the complexity of war beyond his reasons for becoming a hero. Zdarsky creates a complex story in this issue and I’m interested in seeing where it goes next.
The Art: Schiti delivers some fantastic art throughout the issue. The visual contrasts between moments are brilliantly detailed and visually stunning.
